We have some very exciting news to report in 1st Class!! We have just begun a project which involves us planting some fruit and vegetables. It is called the Incredible Edibles Challenge!
On Wednesday as part of our homework we brought in soil from our gardens to plant the vegetable seeds and fruit plants. On Thursday we started our project. First we watched a DVD which showed us how to plant each item and then we all worked together to plant “Larry Lettuce”, “Sammy Spinach”, “Ciara Carrot” and “Suzie Strawberry”. We mixed the soil we brought in with compost and then planted the lettuce, spinach and carrot seeds and the strawberry plant in special pots. Next week we hope to plant “Colleen Potato”!!
We will be making a class scrapbook of our work and progress which we will send to Agri Aware when we have finished our project! We will also be carrying out work about the food pyramid and healthy eating which we will include in our scrapbook too!
