Making Computer Games!

Everyone has been really busy in our after school club looking at Scratch Programming. In groups of 2/3, children made versions of the classic game ‘Pong’. I’ve been amazed at how everyone has used teamwork and computer skills to help make their games. You can play them below!

Use the mouse (or keyboard on Shane and Eomann’s) to move the bat and stop the ball hitting the floor!

After School Activities

After school classes will recommence on Wednesday 9th May.
Numbers were limited for the Scratch Programming Class (4th – 6th class) with David; parents/guardians of children who have got places in the class have been sent a text in respect of same.

Classes are as follows:
Wednesday:
2.10 – 3.10 Art beginning with clay – Trish
2.10 – 3.10 Sport (1st -3rd class) – Siobhan
2.10 – 3.10 Scratch Programming – David

Wednesday:
12.00 – 12.30 Choir – Eimear

This weekend marks a very special occasion in the RC calendar as the children in 2^nd class will be receiving their First Holy Communion on Sunday next 6^th May at the 12.00 Mass in the Dominican College Church. We send our best wishes to them and to their families, and hope they have a truly wonderful day.

We also take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to their teacher Siobhán for all of the work she has done with the children to help them prepare for this important day in their lives.

The First Communion party takes place in the Halla Glas on Thursday 10^th May at 2.30pm and all the children in the RC group along with their parents/guardians are welcome to attend this much loved and very special event.

As in previous years, the children will be dressed in their communion outfits for the party, and will be presented with a memento of their First Communion on the day. The class photo will also be taken at that time.

Parents/Guardians of the First Communion class children are asked to be on the premises no later than 2.10pm in order to help the children with dressing in their outfits. Please meet in reception in order to be guided to the rooms being made available for changing the girls and boys.

There may also be a requirement to sign in and sign out via the Visitors book so please be conscious of this.

Gaelic Team Success

Well done to our senior gaelic football team this week who beat St. Patrick’s of Celbridge in a thrilling encounter that ended in a 2-4 to 0-2 victory for NETNS. Level at half time it was all to play for but a powerful performance in the second half led to victory. Thanks to all parents and teachers involved and to Sarsfield’s GAA for their support on the day! Come on NETNS!

Invitation to help in the garden

We would like to invite children and parents / guardians to come along and help in the school garden on Tuesday afternoons from 1410-1510. We will start next week (24/4/12) and continue until the summer.

If you would like to come and help, please contact David or Karen.

As this is after school, all children must be supervised by their Parent / guardian.

NETNS Garden – a very busy week!

We’re making great progress on the NETNS School Garden. Thank you for all of the kind donations and we are now very well stocked for seeds, bulbs and planting trays. If you have any spare tools, we would love to have a hoe or a rake and few more hand trowels and forks.

We have planted the donated blackcurrant, redcurrant, raspberry and blackberry plants along the fence. Hopefully we should get our first crop this year!

This week at gardening club we turned over the soil to break it up and planted a few rows of potatoes. Thank you to the parents who came to help, it is much appreciated. Lorcan and Seanie helped dismantle the old bird table so we can sand it down and refurbish it.

4th Class worked very hard to dig the holes for the NETNS orchard where we have planted two apple trees. Have a look for them next time you go in the front entrance. We found some huge stones in the soil and it was tough to move them, It was very impressive to see such determination and teamwork.

Mark, Leon and Asuha helped plant the NETNS willow coppice. We placed cuttings at intervals in the grass and soon we should see them growing. As they get established, we should be able to take cuttings from them to make willow sculptures around the school site. The coppice itself should grow into a willow tunnel.

Christmas Carol Service

Carol Service

Thank you to the many parents, grand-parents, guardians, teachers and friends who attended the Carol Service on Wednesday night. It was a really lovely evening with wonderful performances by the children who looked terrific in their hats and scarves and Nativity costumes.

A big thank you must go to the teachers who worked very hard preparing the children and a special thanks to Josh and Bobby for the music on the night.

The refreshments back at the school afterwards were very welcome, and thanks are due to the team of volunteer parents who laid on a fantastic reception with home baking, mini selection boxes for the children, and even some Christmas tunes in the background!

Christmas Food Appeal

The response to our Christmas Food Appeal on behalf of St Vincent de Paul was amazing and we thank you for your continued generosity. Our contribution to the appeal is being collected on Friday morning and will be distributed appropriately by members of SVP.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a peaceful and happy Christmas. Take a look at the photo below of the children from the Carol Service.
