Reminder: Early finishes next week

School will finish at 1.55pm on Tuesday and Wednesday (31st January & 1st February) next week to facilitate some of the progress meetings which are taking place.

Infant classes will finish at the normal time of 1.10pm.

The After School Facility will operate until 1.55pm and school buses will depart at 1.55pm.

This week second class have been working extremely hard learning about money!

We particularly loved the dice game! Here’s how you can play it! You can have two or more players.

What you need:

some coins
a dice

The object of the game is to get a €1 coin. Each player takes a go at rolling the dice and collecting that number of cents. When the player can they can exchange the coins they have won to higher value coins. When they have two 50 cents coins, the must trade for a €1 coin and so win the game.

Give it a go at home and let us know how you get on!

Progress Meetings

Progress Meetings will take place during the coming weeks. Teachers will inform individual parents /guardians of their own specific time, day and date.

Due to Department regulations, progress meetings must take place outside school hours. School will close to pupils (1st to 6th class) on Tuesday 31st January and Wednesday 1st February at 1.55pm in order to facilitate some of these meetings.

Please be advised that after school care will finish at 1.55pm and the buses will also be departing school fifteen minutes early on these dates.

We will endeavour to accommodate all parents/guardians with times that suit both parties.

Tickets on sale for the NETNS Raffle NOW!

If you would like to buy tickets please send the exact amount of money for the number of tickets you wish to purchase in a SEALED ENVELOPE with YOUR NAME, CONTACT TELEPHONE NUMBER, CHILD’S NAME and CLASS and return it to the school as soon as possible.

€2 for a one strip of tickets or €5 for three strips of tickets.

Or alternatively you can purchase raffle tickets in the Community Room in the school every Friday from now and up to the end of term from 8.30-9.30am. The 2012 NETNS School Calendar will also be on sale on these Fridays.

It’s hot hot hot!

This week the in second class we learned about heat! Where heat comes from, how it changes things and how we use it. The children completed beautiful brainstorms including all the key words we learned about heat. Can you remember them?

Next week we will be completing our heat experiement. For our experiment we are testing which material will retain heat for the longest. We will have hot chocolate at the same teperature in four different cups. Each cup will be wrapped in a different material…eg. tinfool, wool, bubblewrap and kitchen paper. Then after around 8 minutes, we will test the temperature. Can you guess which one will keep the hot chocolate warm the longest?

Readathon News: Over €2000 Raised for MS Ireland

A huge THANK YOU and WELL DONE to all those who took part in the MS Readathon this year. Together you raised over €2000 which goes to helping people living with MS.

Not only did we have a great time reading lots of books and raising money for a great cause, we now get to spend €200 (10% of what we raised) on books for our school library as a thank you gift from MS Ireland!

Newbridge Community Games

Newbridge Community Games activities are once again swininging into action for 2012.

The Community Games are now starting for 2012 and they are hoping to have as many children as possible from the area participating. Information leaflets have been sent home to all families, which include registration forms. Please return registration forms to the school office before Wednesday 7th December.

An information and free registration day will be held on Saturday 26th November from 11am – 3pm in the Courtyard beside Lifestyle Sports. This information day will enable parents, guardians and children to learn more about Community Games in the area.

Well done to 2nd class this week for their huge effort in the tidy desks competition! The desks were noticeably much cleaner. Everyone did a great job ensuring there were no papers on the ground or spare pencils lying about. However after tallying the scores, the winner of the tidy desk competition is bord gorm! They did a super job keeping their table clean and will receive a prize next week. Although all the class will receive a sweet for such a good effort! Keep it up! Keep it clean!

Progressing Disability Services for Children and Young People – Kildare and West Wicklow

The HSE is currently involved in a national programme for the restructuring of Children’s Disability Services (0-18 years). The HSE recognises that a more equitable and consistent way to provide clinical services for children with disabilities is required, and all agencies must work together to achieve the greatest benefit possible within our resources.

In Kildare/West Wicklow, the HSE has commenced the programme for the review of services within the area. They wish to advise as many parents, schools, etc of this programme of change and seek representation and views of interested stakeholders.

Information meetings will be held by the HSE at the following venues:

Monday 5th December 2011 Scoil Na Mainistreach, Oldtown Road, Celbridge
Monday 12th December 2011 Piper’s Hill Secondary School, Naas

Registration takes place at 7pm.

The meeting is open to parents of children with disabilities who currently receive services but, in addition, they are anxious to hear the views of parents whose children are not receiving services.

There are leaflets with further details about this meeting available at the information desk in the foyer of the school.
