Amazing Lego Sculptures

Sean Kenney is a full-time LEGO artist. He uses LEGO toys to build anything and everything you can imagine! He has made Polar bears and football stadiums out of Lego!

Fun facts

• Sean has over 1.5 million LEGO pieces.

• The biggest LEGO sculpture Sean ever made was a polar bear, using 95,000 pieces!

• He once built a 12-foot bridge on live TV in 2 hours.

• His favorite piece is the “1×1 headlight brick”. (You can use it three ways!)

• Sean tells people he is really only 12 years old. (But his bald spot is starting to give

him away.)

World War II Diary Entry

We have been learning about what life was like during World War II for evacuees. 3rd class have been working hard to write some very realistic diary entries and imagining how a child would feel been separated from their family. This is a sample from Oscar Kennedy’s diary.

World War II Diary Entry

Day1: 24/5/1945

Dear Diary,

I am leaving London tonight. I have been to say goodbye to my friends and family. I have to go now on the train to the countryside. I am an only child so it will be quite hard to get sleep with no one to comfort me.

Day 2: 25/5/1945

Dear Diary,

After a hard night sleep with enemy planes and air raids eventually I got to sleep. Today I met my host family, they are nice. I met my neighbours. Two of my friends got sent here as well. It’s my birthday but I don’t get to see my parents but I got two presents from my friends and two from my host parents. A bomb got dropped in the field behind us so once we heard it coming we ran to the bomb shelter. It came at around 11 o’ clock.

Cool Comics

Well done to boys and girls form 2^nd and 3^rd class who have been working very hard this week making their own comic.

Ethan, Samantha and Malak from 3^rd class read the story ‘Hatch Egg Hatch’ and decided to make their own comic strip based on the story. First we divided the story into six parts. Each part would be a scene in the comic. Next the children decided how they would tell their story. They could choose to add speech bubbles, thought bubbles and narrator boxes to help tell the story.

At the moment they are putting the finishing touches to their comics to show them to their class next week.

Meanwhile, Orla, Marc and Mia from 2^nd class also worked on a comic strip this week. Together they choose characters, location, plot and a beginning, middle and end for their comic. They drew a rough draft of their comic and then made it on the following website where you can go to make your own comic too!

Firstly, congratulations to 3rd class for filling their jar full of marbles over the last few weeks. All you super hard work has paid off. The final reward was a party and we had a great party last week to celebrate. Secondly, a huge THANK YOU to all the thoughtful parents who baked and brought treats for the party. It really was quite a bash and it’s all thanks to your generosity. So thank you so much.

Check out the jar! There are 185 marbles in total…that’s a lot of hard work!

Sixth Class would like to thank everybody who has been helping us to fundraise for our trip to the Gaeltacht so far.

We are completing a 5k walk with 5th this Friday and we are really looking forward to this… We are still fundraising but we would like to thank 3rd, 4th and 5th for helping us to reduce the cost of our trip to the Gaeltacht. So its never too late to sponsor us…!

We will let you know on Friday how our walk went and how much we managed to fundraise..

Forces

This week in science we have been learning about forces. A force can be a twist, a pull, a push, a catch, a stretch or a squeeze. We can’t see a force but we can see the effects of force. A force can make an object speed up, slow down, change direction or change shape. We designed and made vehicles to put what we learned about forces into action.

Garden Update

Its been another busy week and lots has been happening in the garden before the holidays!

As 5th Class have been looking at The Great Famine in class, they planted some potatoes. We discussed where the potato came from and why people relied on it as a crop.

5th, 6th and 3rd class children all helped to plant some runner beans, carrots and leeks, whilst others also helped to build a new raised bed.

I was very impressed by the teamwork everyone showed to help construct the raised bed and the ‘mini-greenhouse’ which sits on top of it to keep the planted warm and safe. We cannot wait to plant some vegetables in the bed after the holidays
