On our last day in Third Class, we created Compliment sheets for each of us. Everyone wrote compliments for the others in the room and it was lovely to read the kind words everyone had written. We also held a talent show today. Unfortunately we ran out of time and didn't get to see every performance but the performances we did get to see were varied and interesting - a dancing duo called Dizzy Dancers, a singer, a drama called Crime Scene and a presentation of a project on The Romans. As we … [Read more...]

Orienteering
We went orienteering with First and Second classes. We had lots of fun. The maps were well done. "Dumb and Dumber" were first. Deniz, Rowan, Benjamin and Eve won. (by Ben Mc) We had bottles with numbers and letters on them and we had to go to nine different bottles. Then we had to unscramble the letters to find out what the word was. Cool Pompoms
Third class have been busy making pompoms. Everyone in our class made the pompoms with cardboard boxes and wool. Art experimenting
3rd class have been experimenting with different techniques in Visual Arts. We created some amazing clay sculptures and used our fingers and toothpicks to mould and design them. Following this, we used paint to cover each one in a base colour before adding the details. They turned out great! We used the three primary colours along with black and white to create different colours and we transferred these colours onto the page using the paintbrush in a variety of ways. The results were pretty … [Read more...]

We also had a visit from a girl who may be joining our class in September. We really enjoyed meeting her and we are looking forward to having her in our class. While she was here, we sculpted with clay and we are delighted with the results. During Golden Time, most of our class played a basketball match. We will miss you Gerry
What is good news for the new Portlaoise Educate Together National School is bad news for our school. Gerry our senior infants teacher will be leaving our school to take up the post of Principal in Portlaoise. He will be missed a lot. He is a great teacher who loves the Irish language and passed on that love to his students. He helped a lot of children understand lots of different subjects by making them fun. He worked closely with the Student Council helping them organise different … [Read more...]
Slimy Friday
This afternoon 3rd class made SLIME! We used cornflour, water and food colouring to create it. We had lots of fun and we hope to do it again and to play around with it some more. It was such a strange texture and kept changing from solid to liquid and back again. Thankfully we did a great job of tidying up afterwards. Great team-work! … [Read more...]
Welcome Wibby!
Third class have recently welcomed a new member to their class! Wibby arrived last week in the middle of all the excitement of the Official School Opening. Wibby very kindly showed us the DVD of The BFG that day, another Roald Dahl book we have really enjoyed together, and Wibby has been settling in since. Wibby is great at typing but is having a few problems with handwriting and Maths, nothing that can't be sorted out with some one-to-one attention! We have all played with Wibby a little … [Read more...]
