It has been a very exciting week for some of 2nd class. We kept finding trails of glitter in the room and then one day there was a little letter in a golden envelope. Winter Celebrations
The children in 3rd, 5th and 6th class were reading and writing about the various winter celebrations which are celebrated around the world. We talked about Hanukkah, the Winter Solstice and Christmas. We also talked and wrote about the different traditions we practice with our friends and family during the months of December and January. The baby dragons are nearly ready…
Some of the second class pupils are nearly finished making baby dragon eggs! W e are reading a book about some magical dragons and also inventing our own baby dragons. Each egg will have a label with all you need to know about each pupil's dragon's personality - what the name is, who his/her friends are, what magical powers they have and and even what they look like. Three children from First Class worked hard on these First Class Stories today! They picked out four tricky words each and then turned them into a story. 2nd class have been learning all about addition and subtraction using the 100 square. They have now mastered it! One pupil even told me she taught her Mam how to use it! 4th class have created some really lovely 'maths masterpieces' by putting a puzzle together using long multiplication. In Croi na Scoile this month, NETNS are focusing on Exploring Feelings as part of the Moral and Spiritual strand of the Learn Together curriculum. This is a topic that we regularly talk about in the Learning Support and Resource room. Recognising how you are feeling and expressing that appropriately to those around you is a valuable skill. It was a cloudy evening. The stars were coming out and the moon was in the sky. All of the little farm animals were snuggling up with their mammies and daddies. What season is it again??
It may be autumn and the leaves are falling from the trees but in Seomra Trish we have a tree that has just started 'growing'...our sound tree! So far it has nine sounds and fourteen words. Dress Up Fun
We have been having lots of fun learning about clothes in the EAL room this week. We learned the names of different types of clothes and what they are made from. We learned that shoes can be made from leather, hats can be made from wool and t-shirts can be made from cotton. We also used big clothes to dress up posters of a girl and a boy and had a dress up race to see how many pieces of clothing we could put on in two minutes! What an exciting week. … [Read more...]
What we have been up to i seomra Lorraine.
Since September, the children have been busy studying and writing their own autobiographies, creating cartoon strip posters, reading novels, revising addition, subtraction and place value, and the sixth class even "graduated" from fractions!!!
