To mark the end of Book Week we are inviting everyone to dress up as a character from a book this Friday 4th March. For some clever dress-up ideas this page has lots of ideas: http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/costumes_for_kids.htm Looking forward to seeing all of our favourite characters come to life on Friday, Therese. … [Read more...]

Permission Slips for trips to The Curragh

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),  As spring has finally sprung, we are very eager to avail of a wonderful natural resource that is right on our doorstep. The Curragh offers many beneficial learning opportunities for all the children and we would like to bring children there on fieldtrips from time to time. We are currently compiling a permission list, so as to reduce the number of notes going home. We sent home the permission slip today and we are asking you to fill the slip out which states … [Read more...]

Senior Infants are good friends

This week in Senior Infants we have been exploring the Myself and My Friends strand unit of Social, Personal and Health Education. We made helping hands showing really positive ways we can help each other in class and on yard. We drew them on cut outs of our hands. We also role-played what to do on yard if we have a conflict with another child. We reminded ourselves that the first thing we need to do is try and solve our problems ourselves by speaking to the other child. If that is not working … [Read more...]

SI – What time is it?

We continued the theme of Time in Maths this week and have been learning how to read time in hourly intervals. Next time you see the clock on the hour ask your Senior Infant what time it is. We had great fun making the time in a game online as well as with the mini-clocks we have in school. We even made our own clocks in class today. In English we have been doing lots of writing in our writing copies and also making up stories and sentences in our Early Finisher copies.  The children have … [Read more...]

S.I. – Chinese New Year

This week in Croí na Scoile Senior Infants have loved learning about Chinese New Year. We had already learnt about China as part of our SESE curriculum earlier in the year but it was lots of fun to celebrate the new year. We watched the story of how all the animals in the Chinese Zodiac had a race to find out which year they would be. And we were very excited to learn that the Chinese believe these animals look after us all  our lives. Some of us have monkeys and cockerels looking after us … [Read more...]

Inspiration in Senior Infants

In Visual Arts this week we were inspired by the work of artist Paul Klee. We looked at and talked about a few of Paul's pictures and then we made our own versions of his pictures. We loved the different colours he used and the different shapes he made. We noticed that if you look at his pictures you cannot quite tell what something is, it is up to the person looking at the picture to decide for themselves. In maths we were doing addition to the numbers 8 and 9. We used our mini whiteboards … [Read more...]

The photograph's of this year's first ten Irish stars are on display in the reception area of the school. Well done to everybody who won this week. I know the teachers had difficulty deciding and we even had two from 1st class which is fantastic . Good luck to everyone for next week and remember bígí ag caint i Gaeilge! … [Read more...]

Senior Infant Data

There is so much information around us everywhere and sometimes you just have to sort it all out. Well that is exactly what we have been doing in Senior Infants for the last two weeks. As part of our Mathematics curriculum we learnt how to sort and organise information and to present it as Carroll and Block Graphs. We surveyed people in our class asking them their favourite colours, food or pet. We even made up our own surveys. As well as this we finished our work on the story Silly Billy by … [Read more...]
