Senior Infant work in Siobhán’s room

Senior Infants have been very busy this week in Siobhán’s room. Groups from both classes have been working hard on their writing. There are so many different things to remember when writing so we’ve broken it down and taken a different target to focus on each week. Last week, we tried really hard to remember capital letters. This week we made sure to remember finger spaces between each word. Next week, we are going to be working on full stops. Meanwhile, I have been listening to reading … [Read more...]

Budding writers in Senior Infants

We really enjoyed Book Week this week.  On Thursday and Friday we had visits from Hazel, Kathrina and Suzanne who read wonderful stories to us - we really enjoyed them, thank you so much. Watch out for our own wonderful books!  The children are working really well in groups to create their own books.  Each group discussed their ideas and then agreed a topic to write about - they then researched this topic in the library by looking at different books about the subject and getting … [Read more...]

Smells like art?

In Michael’s class this week we had fun in art with something that made our room smell a bit funny. We mixed vinegar with water and painted it onto some A3 paper. Then we got some crepe paper and stuck it on. When we started to take it off we noticed that all the ink from the crepe paper made cool designs on our paper!! On Wednesday we had a visit from a lady named Olivia who is working with us on our Junior Achievement project. She will be helping us with our special project over the next few … [Read more...]

The Tiny Seed

This week we have been very busy looking at some of the changes that happen in springtime.  We went on a nature walk around our school garden and saw all the daffodils in bloom - last week they were only very small plants that we had to be careful not to stand on!  We also saw lots of  little green buds on the branches of the trees. We were really quiet and listened to the birdsong.  The birds were very busy and we saw a big black crow carrying a long twig in his beak to make his nest … [Read more...]

Planting seeds

This week we have learned all about growing seeds and how to look after plants. We discovered that when you plant a seed in soil it needs to be well looked after to grow. It needs lots of natural light to make it strong and it needs to be watered regularly. We did an experiment on the board and discovered that if a plant isn’t watered or doesn’t get enough light it could die. We learned that there are different parts to plants like the roots, the stem and the flower. We brought our Cress … [Read more...]
