I would like to give you some background information about the CD that 5th class will be launching in the coming weeks.

For the past four years KCEB (Kildare County Enterprise Board) has provided funding for primary schools for a business and media education course. On behalf of Kildare County Enterprise Board, Vita Studios offered our school the funding for this media project. All additional staff and learning materials were provided under the funding and profits made from the project are returned to the school

We at NETNS accepted and fifth class were chosen as the class who would set up the business. Firstly we set out our business plan, we named our company ‘NETNS Music Makers’ and we received our certificate of incorporation.

We then allocated different jobs to the children in the class in the areas of sales and marketing, IT department and Finance.

The children in 5th class then worked with all of the other classes in the school to learn the song chosen for their class and prepare for recording.

Vita recording studios then came and set up in the fifth class classroom and all of the classes had their turn to record their song in our very own studio.

We are now in the final stages of our business plan and we are currently collecting orders for the CD and preparing for our CD launch. We will be selling our CD for €10 and it costs €4 to make. This project then doubles as a fund raiser for the school as the €6 profit will be given to the school.

5th class have done a fantastic job setting up and running this company and will continue to work hard in the coming weeks to get the copies of the CDs out to our customers and preparing for the launch. We will be in touch early next week about the launch date and times.

All the children in N.E.T.N.S. are on the CD and you will be able to purchase this wonderful CD featuring your child/ren from N.E.T.N.S Music Makers (aka 5^th class) in the coming weeks.

It was really tough to choose between all of the great designs.  After much discussion, we decided that Hannah Dowling’s (4th Class) design really captured the theme of gardening.   We particularly liked how it showed children working together and enjoying the outdoors.

Hannah also helped me add writing to the design and upload it to the website.

As this is after school, all children must be supervised by their Parent / guardian.

As 5th Class have been looking at The Great Famine in class, they planted some potatoes. We discussed where the potato came from and why people relied on it as a crop.

5th, 6th and 3rd class children all helped to plant some runner beans, carrots and leeks, whilst others also helped to build a new raised bed.

I was very impressed by the teamwork everyone showed to help construct the raised bed and the ‘mini-greenhouse’ which sits on top of it to keep the planted warm and safe.   We cannot wait to plant some vegetables in the bed after the holidays

On Wednesday 21^st two producers came into 5^th class and told them they would like to make a cd with them. They told us that they wanted 5^th class to hold a competition, for the cover and the inside of the cd.

There will be a competition for the inside of the cd cover for junior, senior, 1^st and 2^nd. There will also be a competition for the outside cover of the cd for 3^rd, 4^th, 5^th and 6^th class.

There cannot be any writing or text on the picture and you must include your name on the back of the image.

5^th class will choose the best 10 for the inside and for the outside and the company will pick the best one for the inside and for the outside.

You will have plenty of time to draw over the Easter holidays

We were all given jobs; most of us will monitor the rehearsals and teach the songs to the children of the school. We have been split up into twos and threes to go over the songs with each of the classes. The three main jobs were given to Niamh.W (Director of finance), Deniz (Sales and marketing director) and Filip (IT department).

There is also a competition to design a CD cover. The senior end of the school will design the front cover and the junior end will design the back cover. The CD will be 10 euro and hopefully it will be released soon. The classes songs are:

1^st class-Ugly Alien

2^nd class-Everyday

3^rd class-Angels

4^th class-We’re the kids

5^th class- Superstars

6^th class-Bright star

The teachers sadly do not have a song but we would love if they did. Maybe we could write one for them.
