Pyjama Day- Friday 18th May!

Following the great success of last year’s Pyjama Day, we, the Student Council have decided to hold another one on Friday, 18^th May, as a fundraiser for our school.

We are encouraging all students to wear their pyjamas and bring in a donation of €2 to school on this day. We are hoping to donate some of the money raised from this event to the 4Kids2live charity. A few weeks ago, Georgia and Conor from the 4Kids2live charity paid a visit to our school. They told us all about the charity which they and others have set up in Kenya to help orphans. 4 Kids 2 Live is a not for profit charity that was established to combat poverty and advance education for orphaned children in Kenya.

We were fascinated by their story and photos and decided that we would like to donate to their charity.In addition; we will also be selling bracelets on behalf of 4kids2Live on the day at €2.00 each if you would like to purchase some.

A huge thank you to Georgia and Conor from the Kids2live charity who paid a visit to our school today to chat with the Student Council. They told us all about the charity which they and others have set up in Kenya to help orphans. 4 Kids 2 Live is a not for profit charity that was established to combat poverty and advance education for orphaned children in Kenya.. 4 Kids 2 Live works directly with the local communities to develop sustainable projects that will have a long-term positive impact on the lives of the local people. We were fascinated by their story and photos and we will share these with our classes in the coming days.

Student Council Trip to Portlaoise Educate Together N.S.

Last October the Student Council from Portlaoise Educate Together came to visit our school to learn about the roles and responsibilities of a Student Council. On Monday 27^th we paid a return visit to Portlaoise where we were greeted by some members of the Student Council and their teacher Darach when we stepped off the bus. Upon arrival at the school we met the rest of the council and were given some drinks and some lovely home baked chocolate cakes. We were then taken on a tour of the school; it’s really big and colourful! Next up we were taken to a playground near the school, it was fantastic fun. The day finished far too soon, we’re looking forward to our next trip already!

Copper Tuesday

Copper Tuesday
The Student Council would like to tell you about a new initiative called Copper Tuesday, which is supported by the SC, PA, BoM and staff of NETNS.

1. Every Tuesday you are asked to bring your copper coins to class and fill up the tub.

2. At the end of the year, each individual class counts up the coins.

3. Each class along with the class teacher decide on what to do with your savings!

Board Games Day-Friday10th February

Did you know…..Board games are one of the most common and popular games in almost every culture in the world. We, The Student Council decided at our last meeting to have a Board Games Day in our school this Friday ,10th February. We are encouraging everybody to bring in board games such as snakes and ladders, scrabble, chess, monopoly or any other games you have at home to play with your class. Playing board games requires lots of attention to details, remembering specific information, pictures or clues and also helps develop problem solving skills. We are looking forward to a fun filled day so make sure you bring in a Board Game this Friday to play and share with your class!

Hi Guys,

Last year, we collected lots of mobile phones for the Jack & Jill foundation. This year we would love to get the process up and running again. Jack & Jill not only give interactive whiteboards to schools, they also give computer software and toys ! First class don’t have an interactive whiteboard yet ,and with only 27 mobile phones out of 500 collected so far we will need your help to get them one!

Jack & Jill help the families of sick babies by sending a nurse to help take care of the babies at home. We will miss you Gerry

What is good news for the new Portlaoise Educate Together National School is bad news for our school. Gerry our senior infants teacher will be leaving our school to take up the post of Principal in Portlaoise.
He will be missed a lot.
He is a great teacher who loves the Irish language and passed on that love to his students.
He helped a lot of children understand lots of different subjects by making them fun.
He worked closely with the Student Council helping them organise different events.
Gerry will be missed terribly by all in NETNS.
