Once the facts had been dicussed in class….both sides were given time to prepare their arguements for their proposal. Then came the actual debate. We all dressed up in our best 1920s clothing making use of Dad’s jacket, Mam’s coat, etc. Some of us even had tweed hats. When the debate started, it was quite obvious that it was going to be a close one. Both sides made some fantastic arguements and in the end we had to bring in some 6th class to adjudicate the debate and produce a result.

In the end the Collins pro-treaty side won the debate but this was not due to lack of effort by DeValera and the anti-treaty group. Interesting how history often repeats itself!!!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle — Three great ways YOU can get rid of litter and care for your environment!

Waste, and how we choose to handle it, affects our world’s environment—that’s YOUR environment….think about your school, your home and your local town! The environment is everything around you including the air, water, land, plants, and man-made things. We know that you need a healthy environment for your own health and happiness, so we have been learning why caring for your environment is so important to YOU and everyone else. The waste we create has to be carefully controlled to be sure that it does not harm your environment and your health.

This picture is an idea of how a city would look in 2025 if we never recycled. As you can imagine the place would be overflowing with rubbish! Think of the smell alone. Anyway our picture isn’t quite finished so if you could bring in some wrappers or small piece of rubbish to add to our picture that would be great. Nothing smelly so we don’t pollute our classroom environment. This way we can create awareness of recycling as well as reusing our litter!

This week in maths we were looking at 3D shapes. We used chickpeas and toothpicks to create our own 3D shapes. Above are some pictures of us hard at work creating our shapes. We then combined different 3D shapes to make structures. 

This week we have been reading a book called Four Kids, Three Cats, Two Cows, One Witch (maybe) by Siobhán Parkinson. The book is about 4 kids that go and explore an island but one of the children thinks there is a witch on the island and he is afraid that they will run into her!!!.

On Tuesday we presented our Titanic’s project and they were all great. On Friday we started to plan out our CD launch.

We came up with loads of ideas that were really cool. Some of the things we invented were spinning baskets, a spoon fan, light-up glasses, book alarms, book lights, glasses with shades, desk buzzers and light-up hairbands. The things we used to make these amazing inventions were electrical wires, bulbs, buzzers, batteries, selotape, paperclips, thumb tacs and lollipop sticks. Next week we will be presenting our projects to Eimear. We have been working really hard making posters and preparing our presentations and it promises to be an eventful day. David is doing really cool stuff with us about electricity and we are having so much fun!!!
